This year's conference was a huge success. It was the foundations first west coast conference as they have all previously been in the Washington DC area. They had record attendance from delegates, excellent presenters to match and a wide array of exhibitors. The theme of the conference was centred around nutrition for mental and emotional health. As always it is so difficult to choose who to go and see and listen to. It is worth offering a summary of some of the key presentations of the weekend
Natasha Campbell McBride
Dr Campbell McBride made the trip again from the UK to the US to present at the conference after such an overwhelming response at last years conference. Rather than just a couple of sessions she was able to lead one of the main streams for a whole day. She spoke again of her main area of focus which is Gut and Psychology Syndrome - a condition she has identified in many children suffering from learning and behavioural difficulties. There is an almost inseparable connection between digestive disorders, imbalanced gut bacteria and problems of the mind and emotions. Jeffrey Smith
Anti GMO activist and author of Seeds of Deception, Jeffrey Smith, gave a fantastic, upbeat, keynote speech on the dangers of allowing genetically modified foods to be part of the food chain. He warned of the corporate power and underhanded agendas that have allowed these foods to be promoted as the answer to low crop yields and the solution for global foods shortages. The reality is that much of the science has been subdued and scientists who have proved that GM foods offer significant dangers have been silenced and discredited unfairly. He told a controversial story of Arpad Pusztai, a highly respected scientist who spoke out against GMO's in the 1990's because his research of feeding GM potatoes to rats developed intestinal damage and significant damage of the immune system. After 33 years of faithful allegiance at the Rowett Institute Pusztai was suspended and issued with a gagging order under intense pressure from Monsanto who produce the majority of the world's GMO's. Chris Masterjohn
Chris Masterjohn delivered an inspiring lecture during the main Saturday session of nearly 700 people. he spoke masterfully of the role the fat soluble vitamins play in in promoting mental and emotional health. He showed how depression, anxiety, impulsive control and substance abuse is twice as high for those born after 1945 than those born earlier. Chris carefully showed how adequate fats in the diet that carry valuable vitamins A, D, E and K help to support stress management, positive emotions and mental focus and goal oriented behaviour.

There were several other excellent presentations from Theresa Vernon, Sally Fallon, Dr Tom Cowan, Mark Kastel, Julia Ross, Jack Samuels and Dr Kayla Daniel. To purchase audio or video recordings of any of the conference presentations go to www.fleetwoodonsite.com/index.php?cPath=40
